I have been thinking about this kind of session for a while. There is something so incredibly special and fleeting about capturing a newborn baby while they are still fresh from birth, wrapped in that familiar blanket and wearing that sweet little hat that ends up in their baby books. I have been so drawn to this type of newborn photography, that I just knew it I had to add it to SBP!

What is it?

Fresh 48 is a special, documentary-style session for families that want to capture the first hours of their newborn’s life, without having the actual labor and birth photographed. The session takes place within the first 48 hours of baby’s arrival (hence the name, Fresh 48!) and is held at the place of birth. This is not a traditional newborn session. I will not be posing the baby or using props or lights. This is simple and candid. It’s just me, capturing your sweet baby’s first moments as well as you and your family meeting and loving on the new addition.

What’s included?

- My time, talent, travel, and post-session editing.

- 60-90 minute candid, documentary-style session using natural light.

- 20 edited, high-resolution digital images in a mix of color and black & white.

How is this different than the photos the hospital offers?

They are very, VERY different. The hospital newborn photos likely will not include you, your family, or the baby’s siblings. They will likely be posed, and last just a few minutes. They won’t truly capture your baby’s purity, little quirks, or the bliss and raw emotion that is almost always exploding out of us during those hours after birth when everything is still brand new.

Will Fresh 48 take the place of a traditional newborn session?

Nope! Fresh 48 and a traditional newborn session are two completely different, unique experiences. Your traditional newborn session will consist of props and posing whereas the Fresh 48 is simple, candid, and documentary-style. And while these two types of sessions will often be only days to a week apart, your baby may look completely different for each! Both sessions capture something special that is worth treasuring forever.
